So this is how it all happened: just a couple of weeks before Christmas, while the whole brewery was in the middle of the pre-holiday panic, a brave and small group on behalf\u00a0Birra del Borgo<\/strong>, led by\u00a0Leonardo Di Vicenzo<\/strong>\u00a0left Borgorose (well, actually it was Fiumicino Airport\u2026) towards the United States of A, with a precise mission to accomplish:\u00a0make the Big Apple\u2019s beer consumption\u00a0 rise!\u00a0<\/strong>And, oh, yes, also to let\u00a0the fantastic craft beer made in Borgorose<\/strong>\u00a0to be (better) known and appreciated also in NY \u2013 and further.\u00a0 Actually, we have to admit they are already quite successful in the North America States where they are distributed thanks to our friends from\u00a0B.United\u2026 but we should go\u00a0to give a look by ourselves<\/strong>, don\u2019t you think so?<\/p>\n

<\/span>So, that\u2019s how we spent a\u00a0hard and vibrant week in New York<\/strong>, plus some\u00a0out-of-town day trip<\/strong>, meaning several hundred miles drive in the USofA! We decided to go visit one more time (but for some of us it was actually the first ever) our friends at\u00a0\u00a0Dogfish Head\u00a0<\/a>in\u00a0Milton, Delaware.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Visitin\u00a0Sam Calagione\u2019s brewery<\/strong>\u00a0is always an emotion, and even for those who have already been here, there\u2019s always something new! The big gap covered in 18 years, from the\u00a0homely mini-plant<\/strong>\u00a0used at the beginning \u2013 that you can still see in the brewery\u2019s shop \u2013 to\u00a0the huge fermenting vats<\/strong>\u00a0used today and\u00a0the ever-growing buildings<\/strong>\u00a0 is impressive, but what is really stunning is the passion and pride the whole staff \u2013 and Sam himslef \u2013 share in doing what they like the best:\u00a0making great beers<\/strong>! Among those,\u00a0also the Dogfish\u2019s version of Etrusca<\/strong>, which they fermented in a bronze-covered vat: here the\u00a0honey and fuity notes<\/strong>\u00a0are much more intense compared to the\u00a0sour and mineral<\/strong>\u00a0ones you can find in\u00a0Birra del Borgo\u2019s Etrusc<\/strong>a, due to the different material used for fermentaion (in our case, terracotta amphoras). Before driving back to New York, we also made a stop at\u00a0Dogfish Brewpub<\/strong>\u00a0in Rehoboth Beach, where it all began and where still today, beside the restaurant, you can find a small plant for the experimental batches and, at the upper floor,\u00a0a distillery<\/strong>! And this is only few meters away from the Delaware seashore.<\/strong><\/p>\n

B.United<\/strong>\u2018s offices \u2013 our importer in the USA –\u00a0 are in a very quiet place among the woods in Connecticut.\u00a0Matthias and Stefanie Neidhart\u00a0<\/strong>came here more than 20 years ago from Germany,\u00a0 bringing with them the native\u00a0passion for good beer!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Today B.United is one of the biggest craft beer \u2013 but also sake, mead, cider and other specialities \u2013 importer in the USofA, and we owe them lot for the success of Italian craft beer in the States. In their huge warehouse, our beers are in good company! And then, there is the fascinating\u00a0\u00a0Zymatore Project: a special cellar, where old wooden barrels previously used to age wine or other spirits coming from the best producers in the world, are now used to age small batches of\u00a0beer, cider and mead<\/strong>, \u201cto create liquids of unheard flavors and aromas that destroy the boundaries of beer, wine, mead, cider & spirits\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

Back in\u00a0New York<\/strong>, we let us be soak into the pre-Chistmas atmosphere\u2026 between one bar and the other! Beside the second step of the\u00a0Vespa Project<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Eataly NY<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0Sam Calagione and Peter Hepp,<\/strong>\u00a0our trip to the Big Apple was mostly aimed to visit some of\u00a0the best beer venues in town<\/strong>, including old favourites and nice surprises, and to personally meet who introduces our beers to newyorkers.<\/p>\n

So we shared some\u00a0Genziana<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rubus<\/a>\u00a0bottle at\u00a0The Cannibal\u00a0<\/a>(a great restaurant-butcher serving greay craft beers and juicy meet dishes such as heart tartare!),\u00a0Proletariat<\/a>\u00a0(a small yet well-provided beerpub din Brooklyn where you can taste great beers and admire great tattos) and\u00a0Brouwereij Lane<\/a>\u00a0at Greenpoint. We were also very proud to find our\u00a0Reale Extra<\/a>\u00a0e\u00a0Sedicigradi<\/a>on the starred restaurant\u00a0Gramercy Tavern\u2018s list !<\/p>\n
